In 2022, the United Nations approved a landmark agreement to create the world’s first-ever global plastics pollution treaty. There are a total of 5 Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) sessions where governments come together to negotiate and co-develop the Global Plastics Treaty. Four of these sessions have already concluded.
This report is written in preparation for the final session, INC-5, which is set to take place from 25 November to 1 December 2024 in Korea. As the final session toward a historic and first legally binding treaty to plastic regulation, we hope for the best outcome possible.
Crafted through a youth dialogue and expert consultations, the report highlights 5 key target areas of the Global Plastics Treaty that SYCA calls on Singapore to take a strong stance for:
- Transparency & Traceability
- Global Reduction Targets
- Simplifying the Plastic Production Process
- Equitable Downstream Solutions
- Financing through a Plastic Pollution Tax
Check out SYCA’s key recommendations in the report!
