2025: Global Plastics Treaty

INC-5.2: Global Plastics Treaty negotiations
4 – 15 August 2025

Co-leads for the Plastics Treaty Working Group, Mahith and Terese attended the Intergovernmental Negotiating Commitee (INC)-5.2 meeting on the Global Plastics Treaty.

  • Produced two policy papers (for negotiators and policymakers), about how we hope to see Singapore advocate for a strong Plastics Treaty
  • Tracked different country positions and agenda items at the INC-5.2 negotiations

2025: Heat Vulnerability Project

SYCA’s Heat Vulnerability Outreach Programme was launched in 2025, focused on under-resourced communities, understanding their experiences with heat and exploring possible solutions.

Project timeline:

Phase 0: Ideation

2025: Secondary School & Community Outreach

The SYCA School Working Group had several outreaches over the year in secondary schools and the wider community, in both booth and small-group talks formats, to educate students and the general public on general climate issues and plastics waste.

2025: SYCA Bootcamp

We ran our first-ever bootcamp on 19 July 2025 at the Singapore Sustainability Academy for our volunteers. The goal was to strengthen relationships through networking and served as a platform to empower youth voices through theory education and capacity building.

2025: SYCA Designs! workshop

A crash course into graphic design by Singapore Youth for Climate Action.

As graphic design is an art, SYCA offers a platform for volunteers to embark on creative advocacy projects related to climate action or environmentalism. Over the course of these workshop sessions, participants honed their visual intuition with hands-on activities and case studies, which boosted their confidence in embarking on social media campaigns with confident and effective visual communication.
